Do Magura MT5 and MT7 use the same brake pads?

Yes. One pad shape across the whole family. Any pad that fits an MT5 fits an MT7. Our MT5 and MT7 pads cover all of these:

4-piece vs one-piece pads: which style do you need?

Magura's 4-piston calipers accept two pad styles, and both drop into the same MT5 and MT7 caliper:

  • 4-Piece, Four individual pads per caliper, one behind each piston. Most MT5s and MT7s ship with this style.
  • Standard (one-piece), A single pad per side, two per caliper.

I get this question constantly. Four pads per caliper means eight pads to do front and rear, so the product photos look like too many pads. They're not. One order covers both brakes. Magura pads are special that way.

Easiest move: pull a pad and match what came out of your caliper. In our lineup, Sintered and Trail come in the 4-piece style, and Gravity is available in both 4-piece and one-piece.

Best compound for Magura MT5 and MT7

Here's how our three compounds shake out in these brakes:

Gravity, My pick for most riders. Longer bed-in, and it can be noisy getting there. Once it settles it wears slowly and holds up to park laps and shuttle days, and the park loves to eat pads. My friends on Maguras run Gravity and really like it.

Trail, Beds in fast and runs the quietest of the three. It also feels closest to Magura's own 8.P Performance pads. If you liked the stock feel and want it quiet, go Trail. Wears faster than Gravity, that's the trade.

Sintered, The longest-wearing option and the best pick for a wet, gritty winter. It's also the loudest. Check your rotors aren't resin-only before running sintered.

Worth saying plainly: Trail and Gravity feel very close at the lever. Choose between them on bed-in speed, noise and lifespan, not power. Mixing compounds front and rear is fine. And do the bed-in on a dry day if you can.

Running an MT5e or another e-bike?

The MT5e and eStop are on the fitment list above, same caliper, same pads. A heavier bike carrying more speed puts more heat into the pads, so they wear faster. Do Magura MT5 and MT7 pads fit the MT Trail?

Front caliper, yes. The front is the same 4-piston shape as the MT5 and MT7. The rear is 2-piston and takes MT2/MT4/MT6/MT8 pads. You need both for a full bike.

Are MT5 pads 2 pieces or 4 pieces?

Both styles exist and both fit. The 4-piece style puts one small pad behind each piston. One-piece is a single pad per side. Match whatever came out of your caliper and you're good to go.

Do these pads fit the Magura MT5e?

Yes. Same caliper pad shape as the standard MT5 and MT7. For e-bike duty I'd lean Sintered or Gravity for the pad life.

Why are my new Magura pads rubbing?

Usually the pistons weren't reset before the new pads went in. Magura clearances run tighter than most brands in my experience. Reset them with the old pads still in place, pushing with something that won't mark the pistons, a plastic tire lever works, never metal. And if you topped up fluid while the old pads were worn, the system is overfilled and the pistons can't retract. A close fit is normal on Maguras. If you can't hear the rotor rubbing, you're good.

Which compound is quietest in Magura brakes?

Trail, and it gets quiet fastest. Gravity is noisier during its longer bed-in, then settles down. Sintered is the loudest of the three.
