Three compounds.
235 calipers.
Loam Goat is a small brake pad company on the North Shore. We sell disc brake pads for mountain, e-bike, gravel and road bikes in three compounds, and every set covers the front and rear brake. Founded and run by Ian Christie.

Shown: Shimano D-Type 4-piston shape. Backplate colour identifies the compound on every shape.
Compounds
Trail and Gravity are organic (resin-bonded) pads. Gravity carries more metal fibre than Trail. Sintered is metal fibre with no resin. The trade-offs are bed-in, noise, pad life, heat behaviour and rotor compatibility.
| Spec | Trail | Gravity | Sintered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Organic, resin-bonded | Organic, resin-bonded. 30% more metal fibre than Trail (semi-metallic) | Sintered metal, no resin |
| Ingredients | Kevlar, ceramic fibre, copper fibre, alloy fibre, graphite, resin | Kevlar, ceramic fibre, copper fibre, alloy fibre, graphite, resin. 30% more metal fibre than Trail | Copper, ceramic, graphite, metal fibre |
| Built for | Quiet from the first ride, modulation | Harder bite in the wet and longer life compared to Trail | Wet, gritty conditions and high mileage |
| Bed-in | Quick | Quick, similar to Trail | Longest of the three |
| Noise | Quietest | Quieter than Sintered | Loudest |
| Lever feel | Progressive, ramps up | Progressive, ramps up | Linear |
| Pad life | Shortest of the three | Longer than Trail | Longest |
| Heat | Insulates the system: heat stays in the rotor, not the caliper and fluid | Insulates the system, same as Trail | Conducts more heat into the caliper and fluid. Brake in bursts rather than dragging |
| Rotors | Works on all rotors | Works on all rotors | Not for resin-only rotors |
| Availability | 217 of 235 models | 227 of 235 models | 139 of 235 models |
Heat test: Trail finished at 102% and Gravity at 107% of their starting braking force. ISO 4210 test: Shimano XT caliper, 160 mm rotor, 60 seconds of continuous braking at 35 km/h.
